Spring is here and it’s time to enjoy a carxofada (an artichoke BBQ)

Artichoke reduces the level of blood cholesterol and blood pressure, lowers blood sugar and prevents diabetes. It is also diuretic and fights obesity.

The artichoke came from North Africa, probably from Egypt. The Arabs spread it throughout Western Europe and improved the crop varieties.

Nowadays it’s cultivated in temperate areas of Europe, especially in the Mediterranean countries. In the Delta, the artichoke was first cultivated in the early twentieth Century.

Today, the area of cultivation in the Baix Llobregat is over 500 acres and occupies most of the El Prat and Sant Boi area.

So now that spring arrived and summer is just around the corner do you want some artichoke tapas?
